SPIFE Touch A1AT
“Everyone with COPD should be tested for A1AT”. That is the recommendation of both the W.H.O. and the American Lung Association and our new SPIFE Touch Alpha-1 Antitrypsin assay makes that much more feasible. SPIFE Touch A1AT allows identification of clinically relevant phenotypes on up to 40 samples per gel - twice the throughput of other assays using isoelectric focusing followed by immunofixation with anti-A1AT antisera. Separations are clear for greater ease in interpretation.
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency is the most common genetic risk factor for COPD as well as liver disease in children. Early diagnosis is essential. Lung damage from A1AT deficiency is irreversible, but treatment can slow progression. In the USA alone, there are 16 million people with COPD with millions more undiagnosed. Asymptomatic, heterozygous carriers could benefit from lifestyle modification with genetic counseling for family members.
