H-Pette® Dispenser
Until now, there was really no alternative to differential slide preparation but two glass slides, a drop of blood from a capillary tube or pipette and a technician's skilled hands.
Helena's new H-Pette offers a new approach to slide preparation that eliminates the hazards of open tubes of blood and cuts consumption of slides and transfer pipettes. In addition to saving dollars on disposables, increased efficiency and safety are key benefits.
Just insert the H-Pette into the stopper of any size blood collection tube, invert tube and transfer the drop of blood to a glass slide. Rotate the tube and use the attached paddle to make your smears just as you would with a slide. The H-Pette remains in place in the stopper and is disposed with the tube as a biohazard. It can also be easily removed if necessary.
H-Pette is available through Helena Laboratories, toll free 800-231-5663.

Easy-to-use H-Pette
 |
Step 1. Place H-Pette’s cannula in the center of the stopper of the collection tube. Gently press until the cannula completely penetrates the septum. The tube is now ready for use.
Caution: Cannula is sharp; care should be taken in handling.
|
 |
Step 2. Invert tube at an angle as shown (blade side up, if bladed). Gently press the round edge of the H-Pette to the glass slide to transfer sample to the slide. |
 |
Step 3 for H-Pettes with Blade. Rotate tube to turn paddle side down. Grasp the circular disc as shown and use the paddle to make a smear just as you would a glass slide. A 15-25° angle of incidence gives optimum results. H-Pette can be removed or disposed with the collection tube. |
Tip Top ® Dispenser
Tip Tops are cone-shaped, flexible polyethylene caps designed to fit 13 and 16 mm blood collection tubes, serum separating columns and other 13 and 16 mm vials. Tip Top has a small opening at the top that allows you to dispense straight from the tube into sample cups. Specimens and reagents remain covered at all times, reducing the risk of accidental spills and exposure to infectious agents. One Tip Top can be used to dispense the same fluid again and again, eliminating the need for multiple transfer pipets.
Tip Tops are available in three colors, with and without filters. Filtered Tip Tops have a built-in membrane to remove fibrin clots and other particulates for trouble-free analysis with auto analyzers. Closures are available for evaporation-free storage and a leak-proof seal for mixing.
Tip Tops are available only from Helena Plastics.

P-Splitter
The P-Splitter is a simple, but effective, device that solves the problem encountered when more than one substance must be analyzed from a 24-hour urine. Usually, each analyte requires the urine to be collected in a specific urine preserving agent thus requiring the patient/nurse two days to complete.
The P-Splitter accurately divides each urine specimen collected over a 24-hour period by directing each aliquot into separate 3-liter collection jugs with the proper preservative. After the collection is complete, the device is removed and discarded, and the two containers are completely sealed and ready to be sent to the lab for testing.

Security Specimen System
When testing for drugs of abuse, proof of a controlled chain of custody is paramount. The Security Specimen System helps you prove sample integrity and chain of custody providing sealed packaging, a one-way locking cap, a leak-proof container and documents for recording chain of custody. Each container is individually wrapped in a factory-sealed package to prevent contamination prior to specimen collection. After collection, closing the cup permanently locks the cap in place. The cap cannot be removed without evidence of tampering. The extra tight seal, factory tested to 15 psi, prevents leakage, even in air cargo compartments and pneumatic tube transfer systems. The Security Specimen System is ideal for drugs of abuse testing and forensic analysis - anytime specimen integrity is critical. Other package configurations are available.
